Life: Type & Image

For this project each student was asigned a poem. The first part of the process was all about discovering the essence of the poem. I was challenged to create 100 initial compositions that only consisted of the words. I picked a few compositions and began to disect what I liked most about them and expand upon the ideas. After this I took pictures that I felt accentuated the earlier discussed essence. Lastly I was allowed to pick one color that continued telling the story. These compositions were adapted to fit a social media carousel post, a billboard, and a poster.  A large part of this project was about learning to create strong compositions without relying too heavily on factors like typefaces, effects, and colors. Another aspect was learning how to adapt the same media to a variety of mediums. I also learned about spot colors and pantone colors through this project. The poster has one phrase heavily emphasized to grab the attention of the viewer and hopefully draw them in to read more. The billboard simply contains a provoking statement to catch the eye of the viewer and prompt curiosity. Lastly, the social media carousel post became an exercise in creating segmented art that is cohesive while also strong enough to stand on its own.
