RIGHT UNDER MY FEET
Right Under My Feet is a film about a boy who sets out on an epic journey with hopes to find God. Incredibly eager upon leaving, the boy is quickly faced with failure- he grows tired and discouraged until he finally gives up. It is not until this moment of defeat that he is met by God and realizes that God had been with him all along. This encounter leaves him drastically changed. Although the world around him hasn’t changed he can’t help but see everything differently.
In the film God is represented by the color blue. Blue is the rarest color in nature and through- out the bible blue is understood to represent heaven and things that are eternal. Adding to this rich history, many paintings of The Virgin Mary show her in blue thus associating the color with the com- ing of Christ. The scratchiness of the animation and typography come to represent the beautiful messiness of the journey. Lastly, throughout the character’s journey blue looms above his head and even covers his very shoes.
The film is edited in a filmic look to give the viewer a sense of nostalgia. This is done by add- ing grain and subtitles that resemble those on old VHS tapes. Throughout the film wide angle lenses are used to show the vastness of the world in comparison to the smallness and fragility of the so- journer.
